Reflections of Elegance
This exhibition catalogue accompanied a show of Cartier jewels from the collection of Karl-Gustav Lindemann at the New Orleans Museum of Art. The Lindemann Collection was a significant private holding of vintage Cartier, assembled over decades by a collector with a deep knowledge of the house's history and craftsmanship.
The catalogue was written by three contributors with different areas of knowledge. Hans Nadelhoffer, author of Cartier: Jewelers Extraordinary, contributed scholarly entries. Harry Fane, a specialist dealer in vintage Cartier, provided connoisseurship expertise. Eric Nussbaum, then director of the Cartier Collection, brought institutional knowledge.
Relevance to The Cartiers
The catalogue documents a private collection strong in Mystery Clocks, Art Deco jewels, and important signed pieces. It represents a moment when serious scholarly attention was beginning to be paid to Cartier as a subject for art-historical study, building on Nadelhoffer's 1984 monograph.
