The Windsor Style
Published in 1987, the same year as the landmark Sotheby's Geneva sale of the Duchess of Windsor's jewellery, this book examines the personal style of both the Duke and Duchess across fashion, interiors, and jewellery. Menkes, then fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune, brought a journalist's eye to the Windsors' aesthetic choices and the way those choices were perceived.
The jewellery sections cover the major Cartier commissions, including the Flamingo Brooch and the panther jewels. Cited in the Sotheby's 2010 lot description for the Flamingo Brooch, specifically a chapter on "Objects of Desire."
